As per the latest reports, it might be a possibility that the launch of the Entry/Exit System (EES) might get delayed again. The main reason for this is that around 3 countries of the European union have stated that they are not completely ready to implement the new system. The new EES system has been designed to modernize the task of registering travellers who visit the European Union. The system will have modern registration checks like the facial and fingerprint recognition. These will be carried out at all the ports and airports of the EU with the operationalization date set for the November of 10th.
The countries of France, Germany and the Netherlands have dispatched a letter to Ylva Johansson who is the EU Home Affairs Commissioner. In the letter, the countries have stated that they don’t have enough time to completely implement the new Entry and Exit System.
The letter also contained concerns that were raised by the countries. This includes concerns about the date of the launch. They said that they don’t have the required time to make all the checks necessary for a smooth registration process.
This has led to doubts about the implementation of the Entry/Exit System on the 10th of November. It also points to a potential delay again. But, this will not affect travellers who apply for Schengen visa and visit the EU region as they will still need to go through the border checks if the new system does not come into place.
The process of introducing the new Entry and Exit System was already delayed twice.
Initially, the system was supposed to be introduced last summer. But, France was hosting the Rugby World Cup and the Olympics. Therefore, the launch of the system was postponed to avoid any inconvenience to the visitors.
Therefore, the system was set to be launched on the 6th of October. But, the date got pushed back again to the 10th of November due to long delays and travel disruptions.
The good part is that, all these three countries of the EU region are still in favour of the new registration system. They are appreciative of the fact that these systems will help improve security and reduce time for checking the passport of non-EU citizens who will enter the EU region.
If you are planning to visit the Schengen region, don’t worry about these hassles. These systems are being designed to ensure that you receive a hassle-free registration experience that is faster and much smoother. Simply book your Schengen visa appointment to kickstart your preparations for a delightful visit to the EU region!
